Monument builders will warranty their finished product against defects in material, workmanship, and installation. Please ask your monument builder for a copy of the conditions and restrictions of your warranty and what to do if you have an issue with your monument or find it damaged.

Cleaning

Monuments can become dirty or stained by air pollution, hard irrigation water, tree sap, birds or any number of other sources.  Please ask your monument dealer for instructions on how to clean your monument specifically but below are some general tips:

  • Use lots of clean water. It may take as much as 20 gallons to clean an average monument.
  • Do not use a pressure washer.
  • Do not use any soap that contains ammonia or petroleum based chemicals.
  • Get the monument thoroughly wet before cleaning.
  • Use a fiber or nylon brush, not a wire brush.
  • Start cleaning at the bottom with just water. Rub vigorously and work your way up to the top.
  • Rinse thoroughly with more clean water.
  • Do not let the monument dry until you are finished rinsing.

Monument Repair

It is possible for a monument to be damaged during normal cemetery maintenance such as grass cutting. If you notice damage to your monument please contact your monument builder.
